Ohio is only as strong as its membership. Members and donors are a vital part
of 1KCO's programs and support. They provide long-term financial stability and
play active roles in advocating for quality of life issues in Central Ohio.
1000 Friends of Central Ohio is a membership-based
501(c)3 non-profit organization which means that all of your donations are tax-deductible
to the full extent of the law.

Below is some pertinent information on our region and 1KCO's involvement in
its future.
What
is Great about Central Ohio?
Central Ohio captures much of the economic,
social, and natural diversity of the state like prime agricultural lands, unique
ecosystems, Indian Earthworks, walk-able communities, cultural centers and a
multi-national populous. It is struggling, however, to retain the qualities
that make it great. Subdivisions and shopping malls are taking over prime agricultural
lands; highways lined with strip malls are robbing community identities; central
cities are facing increasing deterioration while suburbs continue to spread
out.
In the midst of all this, local governments are competing rather than cooperating
for the betterment of the region. These and other issues will be exacerbated
as the region looks to accommodate over an additional 573,000 residents in the
next 20 years.
What
Is 1000 Friends of Central Ohio?
1000 Friends of Central Ohio is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 to
protect what is great about our region. Its membership is rapidly reaching 1000.
