Ide's Place has the most unique array of construction styles to be found in the City. For example: a very early ‘half timber’ construction blends poetically with more traditional period styles on Madison Avenue. Stone foundations, decorative gingerbread, round-arched windows and recessed porches accent many homes. Ide’s Place represents a range of architectural styles prevalent in affluent residential areas from the 1880s through the 1930s but also has a mix of more modest homes. The Fair Avenue School, a Frank Packard design built in 1889, is one of the finest local examples of the Richardson Romanesque style. Ide’s Place overlaps part of Franklin Park and Olde Towne, both in the Near East Side, and is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Today, Ide’s Place is once again becoming a close-knit neighborhood as residents go through the process of renovating and restoring their homes. The creation of a very successful Block Watch which has stood the test of time, has increased the feeling of safety and security in the area. Ide’s Place is an area of redevelopment where opportunities to get involved exist.
