There was a time when the German Village of Columbus extended beyond its current boundaries west to the Scioto River and included what was traditionally known as the Old German Brewery District. In the manner of the villages of Germany, the brewmaster and workers lived hard-by their livelihoods from the 1830s to Prohibition in the 1920s.

Today there are a variety of dwellings ranging from old Italianate houses to new condominiums and lofts in the old brewery buildings. This locale offers proximity to Downtown, immediate access to Interstates 70 & 71 and hence to all areas of Columbus. The Brewery District is one of Columbus’ top tourist and entertainment destinations. Bordered by 80 acres of parklands and hike/bike trails, The Brewery District’s wide western edge on the Scioto River offers fishing, canoeing and one of the finest birding venues in the state of Ohio. The Audubon Society of Ohio is building a nature center on the Whittier Peninsula.
